The Hampshire U125 Championship was held at Eastleigh College the weekend of 30th October 2004. This year there were 26 entries, which was more than were in the main championship, which showed the growing interest in this tournament.
The original post from the old Hampshire Chess website on the 2004 Hampshire Individual has been reproduced for the site. Alongside the Open a U125 tournament was also held.
Alongside the Hampshire Individual Chess Open and Major a competitive Minor tournament was also taking place. This was won by Tom Philidor who only took up chess a couple of years ago – a huge achievement.
Although the Hampshire Individual Chess Championship was the main event, the Major had the largest amount of entries (41) and was hotly contested with a number of experienced players as well as a number who had improved greatly in the last few years.
