For a list of the winners of the Hampshire Individual Championship and links to any articles I have written the table on the Hampshire Individual Championship is the best place to look. In addition, the table on the Hampshire Tournaments will detail these and any other tournament articles I have completed. Both of these are available from the menu at the top of the site as well.
Section I
In section I Bournemouth’s AJ Morrell and H Grover both scored four points although the former completed this with three wins and two draws whilst the latter had four wins and a loss to the other qualifier. Both these players progressed to the final, whilst five time champion Frank Elwell failed to qualify.
Section II
In section II Winchester’s LE Vine scored three points and WJ Fry two and a half points. This was from four games, rather than the five in section I.
Final
In the final WJ Fry won two games and drew one against LE Vine and he won the title he last won in 1933. He went on to win the title again in 1951. WJ Fry was also a prolific winner of the Southampton Chess Club championship, last winning this in 1954
With the start of the Second World War in 1939 this was the last Hampshire Chess Championship until 1948.
