The 1934 championship had the same format as 1933 with two sections of six players, with the top two players moving to the final. An all play all was completed in the final between the four players.
Another tweak to the competition in 1933 saw two sections of six players with the top two players moving to the final. There was a much larger percentage of Southampton and Portsmouth players in this years championship.
Again a change from the previous year where three preliminary sections of five players were played and the top two moved to the final where an all play all was completed. This also meant that more than one competitor per chess club was able to enter the competition.
