Hamble Chess Club

The information below is what I have located from the Hampshire Chess Archives, or other sources. I welcome updates to correct any incorrect details, or to supply additional information.

Club History

Hamble Chess Club was formed in 2011, but the members had previously played under other names / locations. Previously they were known as Passed Pawn (2002 to 2011) and Botley (1997 to 2001)1


Southampton Chess League

Under Hamble and Passed Pawn the club have had numerous success, especially as Passed Pawn, when they won Division One five consecutive times in the early 2000’s.


Trophies

Hamble have won Division Two three times, although under Passed Pawn they won the top division six times and the Robertson Cup five times.

  1. These dates are roughly calculated, based on the results I have from the Southampton Chess League. I welcome corrections as it is very likely these are not 100% accurate. It is strange, but sometimes it is a lot easier to determine older information for chess than more recent. This is mainly due to access to newspapers, which covered a lot of chess in the past. ↩︎
